We are excited to share the expanded draft framework for the Vermont Conservation Plan! The framework is presented as three Objectives broken out into Pathways and potential Actions. This is the first iteration of the “action framework,” a work in progress informed by public input to date.
We are sharing the framework now to encourage discussion and reflection, as well as seek more public input. Your feedback will help shape how the plan evolves before it is finalized and submitted to the Legislature by the end of June.
The VCP held Regional Listening Sessions in July and August, and we are returning for round two of public engagement! We will be hosting Winter Regional Listening Sessions on Mondays from 4:-00pm – 7:00pm in February and March 2026. These will be across the state of Vermont: South Burlington, Lyndonville, Montpelier, Randolph, and Rutland. See additional details and register to join at the link below!
“Thank you for taking the time to review this initial Draft Framework for the Vermont Conservation Plan. We greatly appreciate all the time Vermonters have spent this year helping us to get to this point, and we hope you will find this to be a helpful window into our work of the last nine months to recommend a conservation plan to the Vermont General Assembly by June of 2026. We are sharing with you the initial framework, or outline, we are proposing for the Vermont Conservation Plan.”
– Trey Martin, Director of Conservation, VHCB
The Vermont Conservation Plan will be implementing the Community Resilience and Biodiversity Protection Act, Act No. 59 of 2023. It will be developed with input from a range of stakeholders, including private owners of forest lands and agricultural lands, land trusts, conservation organizations, environmental organizations, working lands enterprises, outdoor recreation groups and businesses, watershed groups, municipalities, regional planning commissions, conservation commissions, and relevant State and federal agencies. This work will run from May 2025 to June 2026.
